Kinder Morgan sends out first export cargo from Elba Island LNG

Houston pipeline operator Kinder Morgan has sent out its first shipment from the company’s Elba Island LNG export terminal in Savannah, Georgia.

The Greek-flagged LNG tanker Maran Gas Lindos left the Savannah, Ga., LNG plant on Friday evening, data from the tanker tracking website Marine Traffic shows.

Maran Gas Lindos remains in the Atlantic Ocean awaiting orders for its destination. Both Kinder Morgan and its commercial partner, the European oil major Shell, declined to comment.

Service Sector: Kinder Morgan sets $2.4 billion capital expenditure budget for 2020

Located on an island in the Savannah River, the facility has 10 small-scale liquefied natural gas production units known as trains that, once in operation, will be able to make 2.5 million metric tons of LNG per year.

Kinder Morgan began the months-long startup process at the export terminal in February. Crews have been testing the equipment by using natural gas fed to the facility via pipeline for months. The company reported that the plant started commercial service in October, but the facility has yet to send out its first export shipment.

Elba Island LNG’s first shipment follows those at Freeport LNG near Houston, Cameron LNG in Louisiana, Corpus Christi LNG in Texas, Cove Point LNG in Maryland and Sabine Pass LNG in Louisiana.
