South Africa’s Pambele Aviation lands Guernsey investor

09.07.2021 – 19:22 UTC

Guernsey-based Pula Aviation Ltd, the majority shareholder of Pula Aviation Services Ltd, has acquired a shareholding in Pambele Aviation (PMX, Johannesburg Grand Central), an air charter specialist based at Johannesburg Grand Central, South Africa.

The Pula Group owns and operates a growing number of safari lodges and game reserves in Southern Africa, while Pambele Aviation provides fully managed air charter services throughout Southern Africa, including Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, and Namibia.

Announcing the transaction, Pula Aviation’s managing director, Nick Brown, explained that Pambele Aviation provides bespoke transfers to the Pula Group lodges in remote locations where local knowledge and expertise are vital to ensure that guests arrived safely. “It is a natural progression of our strong relationship with the team at Pambele Aviation that we have now taken a stake in the business,” he said.

Pambele Aviation’s director, Francois Joubert, said the charter carrier has ambitious plans to expand its fleet and service offering. He confirmed to ch-aviation that the company currently operates one Beech (twin turboprop) King Air B200, ZS-SWR (msn BB-1570),…

Canada’s First Air leasing a US Hercules

31.10.2016 – 20:58 UTC

First Air (7F, Carp) has wet-leased a Lockheed Hercules L-382 from US carrier Lynden Air Cargo (L2, Anchorage Ted Stevens) to cover its flights from Yellowknife to the diamond mining towns of Diavik and Ekati in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

According to a Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) disclosure, the contract runs from October 9 to November 30, 2016, and is limited to a total of forty rotations.

It is recalled that in April of last year, Lynden Air Cargo took ownership of First Air’s sole remaining Hercules. As part of the agreement, Lynden pledged to avail it to the Canadian carrier on an ad-hoc charter basis.

Lynden Air Cargo to take over First Air’s sole remaining Hercules

Lynden Air Cargo (L2, Anchorage Ted Stevens) has signed a Cooperation Agreement with Canadian operator First Air (7F, Carp) that will ensure the continued availability of Lockheed Hercules charters in Canada’s North.

Under the agreement, Lynden Air Cargo will assume ownership of First Air’s sole remaining Hercules on April 30, 2015. Thereafter, subject to regulatory approval, the US cargo specialist will avail the freighter to First Air on a charter basis. The turboprop will operate out of First Air’s Yellowknife base where its ability to transport heavy, outsized cargo to short, gravel runways will prove ideal for clients in Canada’s remoter northern settlements.

“For a long time the Hercules made perfect sense, but markets are changing,” Bert van der Stege, Vice President Commercial at First Air, said. “The cost of operating and maintaining Hercules freighters has risen significantly in recent years. It is no longer viable to keep Hercules in our fleet.”

Lynden Air specializes in Hercules operations employing the type on international charter flights as well as on scheduled…
