Universal Supply Chain meeting demand with YPS wrappers

The UK’s foremost supplier of shrink wrapping equipment, Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS), has installed a side sealing unit and shrink tunnel into Universal Supply Chain’s (USC) distribution centre.

Universal Supply Chain are a leading provider of storage, warehousing, distribution and contract packing solutions, offering a full logistical and fulfilment service to the B2B sector. Owing to the nature of the business, USC requires complete flexibility to wrap a wide variety of products and deliver on many different customer contracts simultaneously.

Having supplied several shrink wrapping machines to USC over ten years, YPS were poised to assist with further equipment at the beginning of 2019, when they were looking to increase capacity.

The equipment supplied was a Hugo Beck Flexo XE side sealer and shrink tunnel, an identical line to the one previously fitted. With German engineering and a fully automatic configuration, the side sealing equipment provides robust and reliable performance, whilst also keeping labour costs down by requiring fewer operators. Furthermore, the Flexo XE delivers the high level of flexibility that USC wanted as it offers extremely fast format changeovers on a wide variety of products without the need for any change-parts or downtime.

Since installation, USC has benefitted from the additional shrink wrapping line. Capacity has doubled, enabling them to secure more contracts as well as complete existing contracts sooner, increasing customer satisfaction.

USC MD Prakash Mistry said: “We’ve always received brilliant service from YPS, so when we identified a need to expand our packaging facilities, there was no question over who to approach. Every machine we’ve purchased has been supported with high quality servicing and the supply of parts, which is critical in an industry like ours when we have deadlines to meet.”

YPS MD Glyn Johnson added: “I’m always proud to work alongside successful family businesses like Universal Supply Chain, and I’m thrilled that we could support them once again on this latest project to expand their wrapping capacity.”
