UFU encourage members to complete annual animal inventories online before December 30

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) announced that the process would move online entirely due to coronavirus (COVID-19) and must be completed by 30 December 2020.

UFU deputy president William Irvine said: “We are encouraging our farmers who received a letter from DAERA to complete their inventories online.

“It is a legal requirement and the information members provide ensures that animal statistics are kept up to date and market trends can be monitored effectively. I urge all farmers to complete their animal inventories on time as failure to do so may result in financial penalties being applied to your direct agriculture support payment.

“We understand that for many of our members in rural areas, broadband connection remains a serious issue and will create problems for farmers when completing the online inventories.

“We encourage members who are unable to use the online facilities and require assistance to contact your local DAERA direct office which will be able to provide support over the phone.

“However, it is important that farmers act early to seek someone to complete it on their behalf.”
