TAGBILARAN CITY –– A cargo vessel ran aground in the waters off Cabilao Island in Loon town, Bohol on Friday, Feb. 5.
A local fisherman found MV Trans-Asia 5 floating at sea on Friday dawn, Estrella Go-Zagorski of La Estrella Beach Resort and Cabilao Dive Center said.
Go-Zagorski said she and three other divers dove in to inspect the extent of the damage.
In a post on Facebook, the Trans-Asia Shipping Lines Inc. said the cargo vessel was no longer part of the company.
“We have received news of MV Trans-Asia 5 running aground in Bohol. Please be informed that Trans-Asia 5 was already sold to a foreign buyer last Jan. 15, 2021. The vessel is in effect not part of Trans-Asia Shipping Lines, Inc. fleet,” it said.
Seaman Second Class Rodel Astronomo of Philippine Coast Guard-Western Bohol said a team was deployed to conduct an inquiry on the actual cause of the incident.
