BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Lower Bucks County has become the latest area impacted by Amazon’s push to expand, and speed up, its delivery system.
Three Amazon warehouses are set to open in Bucks in the coming months, with another coming nearby in northeast Philadelphia.
A new Amazon distribution center is planned in Bensalem, with another two warehouses scheduled to open in the Levittown area — one in Falls Township and the other in Bristol.
What’s Amazon Doing?
Earlier this month, Amazon announced plans to hire 100,000 new full and part-time employees across the United States and Canada.
The new hires, the company said, are to help staff hundreds of new warehouses that are part of its distribution system.
“We are opening 100 buildings this month alone across new fulfillment and sortation centers, delivery stations, and other sites,” said Dave Clark, a senior vice president with Amazon.
As of Sept. 14, the Seattle-based company already had opened more than 75 new warehouses and delivery stations in the U.S. and Canada.
The Jobs
Amazon representatives told officials in Bensalem that the distribution center there will create somewhere around 315 jobs. About 100 of those will be warehouse jobs, while another 215 or so will be delivery drivers and their managers.
The jobs will offer starting wages of at least $15 per hour and, in some places, Amazon is offering sign-on bonuses of up to $1,000. The company offers full-time employees benefits including health, vision and dental insurance from the first day, a 401(k) with a 50-percent company match, up to 20 weeks paid parental leave and a program that helps with tuition.
You may search available jobs with Amazon online. As of Friday afternoon, there was just one Bucks County job listed — a part-time position in Fairless Hills.
Clark said all the new jobs will have pay of $15 per hour or more.
Where Will They Be?
The Bensalem fulfillment center will be located at 3750 State Rd., at the intersection of Winks Lane.
The Falls Township warehouse will be in the former Rite Aid warehouse on Geoffrey Road in the Morrisville section. The Bristol Township warehouse will be on Rt. 13, near the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the warehouse formerly used by Solid Wood Cabinets.
When Will They Open?
Amazon spokesman Andre Woodson said the sites in Levittown and Bensalem are expected to be in operation by the end of 2020. He said the locations will create “hundreds of full-time, full benefit jobs in the area.”
