According to developers, a new electric cargo train was put into running at a steel plant Nanjing, capital of east China’s Jiangsu Province this Saturday.
The new 14.9-meter-long train, without any outer power supplies, is made for transportation for short distance in large factories and it utilizes as power source lithium iron phosphate batteries.
This new train, according to the China Electric Power Research Institute, is able to run 120 km with a full load of 2,500 tonnes thanks to the maximum design speed of 20 km per hour. The development of the train required one and a half years for the institute along with the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd.
“Diesel locomotives are generally used to transport goods at steel plants, which causes serious pollution,” stated Luan Ning, the director of the marketing department of the State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company.
