A well-known international furniture company based in Monroe is being recognized for its efforts in the business community.
La-Z-Boy has been selected as the recipient of a “Making An Impact 2020 Award of Excellence” from the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM).
Each year, ASCM, a nonprofit association that supports organizational transformation, innovation and leadership in supply chain management, gives recognition to businesses that it determines are exemplary.
La-Z-Boy was selected for the award for its commitment to safety performance, environmental sustainability and involvement in the communities in which it operates, including the company’s philanthropic ventures and volunteer initiatives.
Darrell Edwards, a senior vice resident and chief operating officer, will discuss the award in a LinkedIn Live interview slated for 2 p.m. Oct. 20.
Edwards said receiving the award is an honor for the company.
“While our commitment to crafting products that meet or exceed industry standards for quality and safety is of supreme significance, we are equally committed to the environment and integrating sustainable business practices throughout our operations,” he said.
La-Z-Boy currently operates eight zero-waste-to-landfill-endorse facilities, according to a statement from the company.
About 97% of the company’s manufacturing waste is recycled and, through conservation efforts, the company has been able to reduce its water usage by about 25 million gallons a year.
Edwards also said the company is dedicated to ensuring the safety of its workforce.
“With our employees among our greatest assets, their safety and wellness are paramount to our culture as we go to work each day,” he added in a press statement.
“And, we are proud to follow the example set by our company’s founders more than 90 years ago to enhance the quality of life in the communities in which we live and serve through leadership, financial contributions and volunteer efforts.”
La-Z-Boy was founded in Monroe in 1927. Its current world headquarters is located at 1 La-Z-Boy Dr.
Its former headquarters, located on Telegraph Rd., was recently razed and is being redeveloped with the guidance of the City of Monroe.
