Supply chain management (SCM) was a hot topic back in the ‘90s and into the early 2000s, with a boom in international outsourcing, and massive development of global supply chain networks. Not long after its peak in popularity, the concept faded into relative obscurity, as the mainstream found itself captivated by new, more exhilarating technologies and disruptions across industries.
HCM and CRM systems, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain technology, and, more recently, virtual and augmented reality, in turn, became the “new kid on the block.” Now, though, SCM is back, after COVID-19 gave a live demonstration of just how fickle our global supply chain networks truly are.
The pandemic taught us, in the supply chain industry, one key lesson: the tender, love and care for supply chain management should have always been prominent.
