Since 2010, the term “startup” has evolved from simply meaning ‘a newly-found company’, to ‘a powerful catalyst for innovation and digital transformation’. Oftentimes, the applications that we use on a daily basis were, not all that long ago, just ideas and pipedreams thought up by groups of friends. These ideas caught the attention of venture capitalists and major corporations in the tech realm, who were more than willing to sink hundreds of millions into rounds of seed funding, to ensure that the thoughts became a reality.
Between 2012 and 2016 alone, seed, venture, and technology investments alone have trebled worldwide, and although it hasn’t caught the attention of the mainstream, a lot of that capital has been sunk into the global procurement industry.
