With a view to boosting women empowerment, 16 Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been involved in paddy procurement process in kharif paddy procurement of 2019-20 in Balangir district.
This was revealed by district Collector Arindum Dakua to mediamen after the kharif paddy procurement meeting held at Balangir on November 7 (Thursday).
The paddy procurement in the district will start from November 15 in 158 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) in the district.The paddy procurement process would be implemented through P-pass system and rather than millers ,this year cooperative society would deal with handling charges, informed the Collector further.
Ironically, many PACS are not having adequate machinery to perform the task of weighing and other necessary actvities required for paddy procurement, besides the lack of adequate space to store/keep paddy.
“We have instructed the PACS to keep the machine ready for procurement,” said Collector Arindum Dakua.
There are 48,893 farmers in the district with Aadhaar link and 19,70,588.23 MT tonnes of paddy would be purchased in kharif paddy procurement of 2019-20.
“We are going to submit a memorandum to the Government to increase the amount of paddy a farmer can sell this year ,in view of better paddy production in the district,” said president of Balangir Zilla Krushak Mahasanga Sudhir Parischha.
The Minimum Support Price for Fair Average Quality (FAQ) paddy stands at Rs 1,815 and for Grade1quality, it stands at Rs 1,835.
The paddy procurement meeting was attended by Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra, Loisingha MLA, Mukesh Mahaling, Patnagrah MLA Saroj Meher,ZP chairman Bharti Mahanand and other district level officials and miller representatives.
