After weeks of controversy, the Port Wentworth City Council was finally able to conduct a meeting Wednesday night and get back to the business of the city.And one of the pieces of business was approving the site plan for a new Amazon warehouse.The 118,000 square foot Amazon warehouse will be built on Crossgate Road between the Parker’s and Jimmy Deloach Parkway, but the best thing about it all, is it will bring approximately 250 jobs to this area.”That’s not only great news for the Port Wentworth community, but that’s great news to the region as a whole,” said Trisha Growe, President, CEO, Port Wentworth Chamber of Commerce. “That’s going to bring an economic impact to this entire area and create jobs, not only for Port Wentworth but for the residents in our entire area.”In addition to creating job, Amazon bringing their warehouse to Port Wentworth could be the springboard for other businesses to come.”It takes businesses coming into peak the interests of other businesses and sectors to also start to look at Port Wentworth and consider relocating to the area,” added Growe.The cost of construction for this Amazon warehouse is approximately $20 million.WJCL did reach out to Amazon about their plans and they told us they have a policy of not talking about rumors or speculation and therefore are not yet commenting on any specific plans in Georgia.
