Be Bold, Be Birmingham

At Birmingham City Council, we’re on an exciting journey of growth and change. We’re innovating across a huge range of services, with a focus on delivering great life outcomes for our 1.2million residents. Housing, a commitment to sustainability and the development of sector-leading digital solutions and public services are central to our plans providing an exciting opportunity to join us, and deliver the boldest ideas and concepts to build on the fantastic opportunity which the Commonwealth Games 2022 offers the city and region.

As the Assistant Director- Corporate Procurement Services (CPS), you’ll transform and help develop the CPS function in the City Council, ensuring that it is cost effective and on path to achieving our strategic vision. You will play an instrumental role in transforming the market and adding social value whilst ensuring positive impact on outcomes and our environment.

You’ll lead commercial change in the Council and its supply chain through collaborating with the wider organisation and Members, as well as inspiring your team around you. This means you need to be great with people, as you’ll need to effectively communicate with service users and other stakeholders.

Building a centre of expertise and excellence in CPS, you’ll define a clear vision for the future of CPS which will deliver brilliant value across all Council expenditure.

Together within your team, you’ll help establish and sustain a culture of measuring and managing compliance against agreed policies and processes for all procurement activity. You’ll also plan and manage budgets, achieving the best financial results and reaching various resource based targets.

To be able to work on these exciting challenges you’ll need Full Membership (or associate membership if in final stages of progressing to full membership) of the MCIPS or an appropriate equivalent body. We’ll also like to see a broad, in-depth experience in Procurement and Contract Management, including relevant operational experience, which shows a wide exposure to complex practices.

This is a truly unique role with scope to bring lasting change to a dynamic and exciting city. If you want real challenges that will maximise your potential, then get in touch.
