Outdoor retailer Mountain Warehouse has signed a new ten-year open book contract with logistics supplier Clipper, which will begin this spring.
Operating from Clipper’s Peterborough distribution centre, Clipper will provide services including order fulfilment and returns management for Mountain Warehouse. The contract will make use of Clipper’s automation and robotics facilities to increase capacity and fuel growth for the retailer.
Marcus Ward, chief operating and financial officer of Mountain Warehouse, said the retailer was keen to get started with the contract. “The engagement from Clipper’s senior team from an early stage and Clipper’s proven ability to meet our high standards, has given us the confidence to enter into a long-term partnership,” he said.
Clipper has also agreed in principle a new five-year open book contract with fashion retailer River Island.
It has provided returns solutions for the retailer since 2017, but under the new agreement, which is due to start mid-2021, it will also now provide a full range of logistics operations. These will include warehousing, distribution to high street stores and e-fulfilment services at River Island’s existing distribution centre in Milton Keynes. As with the Mountain Warehouse contract automation and robotics will be key to driving efficiency.
Will Kernan, CEO at River Island, said that Clipper would help to deliver a significant, fast-paced programme of change that will support the retailer’s omni-channel strategy and growth ambitions. “Our brilliant distribution centre workforce will remain in place and, with Clipper at the helm, we are confident that our logistics operations will become even more future-proof, more efficient and more flexible,” he said.
