(MENAFN – Bangladesh Monitor) Dhaka: The United Kingdom has lifted the ban on direct air cargo airlift from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) with immediate effect.
The withdrawal came nearly two years after the UK authorities imposed an embargo on it citing poor security.
The announcement of the removal was made at a press conference, jointly organised by Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism UK High Commission in Dhaka, on Sunday.
‘I am delighted to confirm that the temporary suspension on direct air cargo between Bangladesh and the UK has been lifted, following significant progress made in meeting a number of important security conditions,’ said Alison Blake, British High Commissioner.
Suspension of the ban on direct cargo flight was not a political decision. It was a technical thing, she said.
She handed over relevant papers to AKM Shahjahan Kamal, Minister for Civil Aviation. SM Ghulam Farooque, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and Air Vice-Marshal M Naim Hasan, Chairman, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) were present on the occasion.
