DSV has launched three new air cargo charter routes, which connect five continents, to meet increased demand for air freight capacity.
The company’s weekly, direct Luxembourg–Sao Paulo, Brazil route was launched last week and offers 100 tonnes of capacity between Europe and Brazil.
from March 1, DSV will start a weekly service from Shanghai to Chicago Rockford International Airport and back to Shanghai, offering 100 tonnes of capacity in each direction.
Additionally, from April 21, DSV will operate a direct service between Luxembourg and Johannesburg, South Africa. Four weekly direct rotations, with a combined 150 tonnes of capacity, will connect the two locations.
The company’s air charter network is managed in-house and covers road freight to and from the airport, document handling, freight handling and planning for loading ULDs.
“Covid-19 continues to impact global trade and movement of goods for companies all over the world,” the company said in a statement. “Consequently, airports around the world are facing significant cargo congestion, and customers are facing a frustrating lack of capacity.”
Mads Ravn, head of global air freight procurement at DSV, added: “We know a lot of customers struggle with a tremendous amount of uncertainty and a general lack of capacity. Therefore, it is imperative for us to continue to provide new solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic for them.
“We see cargo congestion at both sea ports and airports around the world, hence it’s crucial that we seek to find alternative solutions. I am very pleased that we keep expanding our international air charter services. The aim is to offer more flexibility and security of cargo freight which is crucial and sought after by our many customers.”
Last week the forwarder’s chief executive Jens Bjørn Andersen told Air Cargo News sister title DVZ that it is hoping to make further large acquisitions this year following the faster than expected integration of Panalpina.
Andersen said the company’s performance in 2020 demonstrated the benefits of bringing Panalpina and DSV together. It also has an A rating from ratings agency Moody’s meaning it is in a good position to fund any deals.
Asked which types of business were on DSV’s radar, Andersen said expansion in air and sea was a target.
