Edinburgh City Council is offering local businesses cargo bikes to help them do deliveries while work is carried out to extend the city’s tram route to Newhaven.
Work on the 2.91-mile extension began last month and is expected to be completed by spring 2023.
The council has a £2.4 million fund to support affected businesses and, as well as offering cargo bikes, it is is setting up five logistics hubs along the new tram route to help businesses manage deliveries and dispatches.
A discount voucher scheme has also been launched to help drive footfall and generate revenue in the area.
Transport convener councillor Lesley Macinnes said: “This is a time of significant transformation for Edinburgh and the tram project is one of the major drivers of the carbon-free, connected and accessible future we are working hard to achieve for the Capital.
“It’s an absolutely pivotal moment for the city and we need to do everything we can to get this right for Edinburgh – for today’s residents, and for generations of residents to come.”
