Environment Protection is no longer a desirable act; it has become the need of the hour now. Thus it is also important to recognize such acts as well. The US Environment Protection Agency or EPA echoes a similar opinion. The Agency recently recognized Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians and Chumash Casino Resorts. The reorganization for the casino and its tribal affiliation came for cutting down the waste and food recovery.

Michael Stoker, the Regional Administrator of EPA Pacific Southwest, recognized the efforts made by Chumash Casino and Resort especially during the much spoken about ‘America Recycle Week’. He added that the zero waste initiative of the Chumash Casino and Resorts is making a big difference. He further recognized the Chumash Casino and Resorts as the Recycling Champion for diverting more than 90 percent of the waste stream from landfills and also sharing their expertise and experience with the other tribes reported the Calvinayre.

Who does not like appreciation and recognition? Well, Santa Ynez Tribe is equally ecstatic and enthralled with this recognition. Kenneth Kahn, the local chairman of Chumash Casino and Resorts said that the recycling program has been taken to new heights thanks to the different local partnerships and enthusiastic participation in the innovation program. Kahn is a proud man for the efforts of his team to reduce the waste stream and look to reduce it even further. He looked enthralled to become the leader for the recycling in the California Indian Gaming Industry spectrum.

However, this is not something new for the Chumash Casino and Resorts. They have been working for the betterment of the environment for long. In fact, they have received multiple awards from the EPA already. They were awarded the Food Recovery Challenge in 2014 and 2016. The Food Recovery Challenge is an interesting and quite sincere program from EPA. In this, the Casino is partnered with more than 1000 different organizations and businesses. The objective of the challenge is to reduce food waste in the country.

The impact on the environment can be reduced if one can control the food extraction, manufacturing, distribution, use, re-use, recycling and at last the disposal. As part of the program, the organization and businesses take the pledge with EPA and submit the report to it for sustainable food management practices. The objective of the practices is to obtain zero food waste.

The EPA has prepared a Food Recovery Hierarchy. This identifies the actions required from the organizations to prevent the waste of food. As of now, thousands of organizations and businesses across the country have partnered with the EPA to prioritize the actions to reduce food waste.

This is not the only thing about Chumash Casino and Resorts. There are many other things that everyone should know. The Casino Resort has been a partner of EPA for the WasteWise program. It has won the title of WasteWise Partner of the Year in both 2012 and in 2015. This program is intended to apply sustainable material management practices. The objective is to reduce both the industrial and municipal waste.

The Chumash Casino and Resorts have taken the responsibility for the environment and maybe this is a wakeup call for everyone to do their part for the Environmental Protection throughout the world.
