MCDONOUGH — A resolution to impose a 12-month moratorium on all industrial developments in unincorporated Henry County was removed from the Board of Commissioners Jan. 6 agenda following discussion among board members.
In a 4-2 vote, commissioners decided to hold off on a decision until additional meetings could be held between the BOC and the Henry County Development Authority.
Commissioner Dee Clemmons said she didn’t want to send a message that it’s the intent of the board to prohibit people from operating in their businesses in the county, adding that the proposed moratorium is designed only to hold off on new zoning with the aim of making sure no new warehousing comes to the county.
Commissioner Bruce Holmes said he wants to move away from “warehousing and low-paying jobs.”
“I think it’s time for us as a county to move into a different direction,” he said.
It’s unclear when the BOC intends to revisit the issue.
