HMM announced on Jan. 21 that it will deploy an extra loader on Jan. 23 to transport Korean companies’ export products to the United States.
The 4,600-TEU container ship HMM Forward is scheduled to depart from Hyundai Pusan New Port Terminal (HPNT) in Busan on Jan. 23 to carry 3,970 TEUs of cargo from Korean exporters to Los Angeles Port.
In 2020, HMM deployed a total of seven extra loaders on the Busan-L.A. route. HMM Forward is the eighth extra loader brought into schedule on the route. HMM also deployed an additional vessel on the Busan-Savannah route at the end of December 2020.
Currently, the global shipping market is having difficulty securing vessels and container boxes as cargo volume, which shrunk in the first half of 2020 due to COVID-19, has soared since the second half of 2020. Despite these difficulties, HMM has steadily deployed extra loaders to ease Korean exporters’ difficulties.
“The steady deployment of additional vessels is expected to be of great help to Korean companies suffering from disruptions in exports,” an HMM official said. “As the only Korea-based global shipping company, we will put our utmost efforts into ensuring that export products are transported without disruptions.”
