An industrial warehouse once used as a makeshift community theatre has been transformed into a magnificent family home with a sparkling rooftop swimming pool – but you’d never know it from outside.
Built in 1920, the two-storey home in Collingwood, three kilometres north-east of Melbourne CBD, was recently converted into a three bedroom house that occupies the entire floor space of the former factory.
Standout features include polished concrete floors, soaring ceilings, an ensuite master bedroom with a freestanding bathtub in the corner and an enormous open plan kitchen and living space flooded with natural light.

On the roof of the house, which last sold for $345,000 in December 2001, a poolside terrace and private courtyard overlook local landmarks and the nearby city skyline.
Listing agent Michael Amarant, who is overseeing the sale of the property for Melbourne realtors Jellis Craig, said the property is a ‘rare find’ in the area.
‘It has an outstanding mix of indoor and outdoor living thanks to the roof, and the pool is very unusual – you can count on one hand how many pools are in the Collingwood postcode,’ Mr Amarant told Daily Mail Australia.

While Victoria’s ‘short, sharp’ five-day lockdown halted public viewings as health authorities scrambled to contain the Holiday Inn outbreak, Mr Amarant said he expects the conversion to be ‘warmly received’.
‘Freestanding warehouses are always popular, especially ones with big open plan living spaces like this,’ he added.
On the market with a guide price of $2.6million to $2.8million (AUD), the house is a cut above the rest of the neighbourhood where three-bedrooms sell for an average of $1.375million, according to realestate.com.au.

Once a working-class hub of warehouses and factories, Collingwood has undergone a slow but steady gentrification into a hotbed of style where young creatives flock for fine dining restaurants, record stores and vintage clothing shops.
Conversions of formerly industrial buildings are common alongside quaint workers cottages, bluestone terraces and historic public buildings.
Expressions of interest for the Easey Street warehouse close on Wednesday, March 10.
