NEW DELHI: Delhi Congress on Thursday alleged irregularities in procurement and distribution of anti-pollution masks to school students and questioned why the AAP government did not utilise the Rs 1,000-crore green tax lying at its disposal to take measures to improve Delhi’s air quality.

Addressing a press conference, Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra alleged that Aam Aadmi Party government spent Rs 10 crore on buying the masks, which have not been distributed. “The quality of masks is so poor that they cannot be used for more than 3-4 hours in such high pollution,” Chopra said. “We demand a CBI inquiry in the case and will also approach the Lokayukta.” He added that Rs 1,174.6 crore had been collected as ‘green tax’ since 2015 but Delhi government spent only Rs 272.5 crore from it.
