Miami-Dade’s 15-year, $5 billion campaign to upgrade county aviation facilities is now underway, with several projects targeting cargo operations at Miami International Airport (MIA) planned in the near future.
Cargo movements at MIA have grown at a rate of roughly 5%-6% yearly, Aviation Director Lester Sola said. Last year, the airport ranked No. 1 in the nation in processing international cargo, transporting 2.4 million tons to 109 destinations by way of 41 airlines.
