IPOH: Several World War II-era bombs have been found by a group of workers conducting land clearing works at the Ipoh Cargo Terminal today.
The workers were said to have stumbled on the bombs at 8.30am.
This was the second time explosive devices have been discovered at the cargo terminal area.
Police have cordoned off the area and deployed a bomb disposal unit to the scene to assess the situation.
District deputy police chief Superintendent Mohamad Nordin Abdullah confirmed the matter.
He said police have yet to determine the exact number of bombs found at the location today.
“We are still checking and waiting for the official report,” he said when contacted.
On Friday, Mohamad Nordin reportedly said that maintenance workers who were digging at the are found at least four explosive items at 2.45pm.
He added that the bomb squad deployed to the scene found another four.
“All eight bombs were detonated at a quarry area in Lahat. We believe the location (where the bombs were found) used to be an explosive storage facility for the Japanese troops during World War.” he added.
