NORTH SMITHFIELD – A stone manufacturer and fabrication company is looking to expand its business with a new warehouse and showroom at the corner of Providence Pike and Industrial Drive.
K & B Properties and The Beck Company currently operate out of an existing building at 20 Providence Pike. The company is looking to construct a new, 54,447-square-foot building on the same property that will include a showroom and office as well as warehouse space.
The Beck Companies is a group of fabrication and manufacturing companies that sells granite and other stone products as well as custom closets and commercial casegoods. The family-owned company relocated to North Smithfield from Johnston in 2016.
According to a project narrative submitted to the Planning Department, the office and showroom will be located on the east side of the building and accessed off Industrial Drive. The warehouse loading docks will be located on the west side of the building and use the same entryway that accesses the current building.
David D’Amico, an engineer for the project, wrote in the narrative the company plans to build a new entrance to the property on Industrial Drive. Changes will also be needed at the entrance on Providence Pike.
Due to the size of the project, the company will need a stormwater permit from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management. The project is due for its first review before the Planning Board tonight, Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.
Also on the agenda for tonight’s Planning Board meeting is the expansion of North Smithfield Auto Body on Route 146, a minor subdivision at a property on Old Sayles Hill Road and changes to the town comprehensive plan.
