The Granite City is set to host a £1.8 billion Scottish wind farm project next month, as developers of the giant offshore venture hunt for local contractors.
EDF Renewables and Irish firm ESB will hold an event at Aberdeen FC’s Pittodrie stadium on March 5 to showcase the opportunities to local firms from the 54-turbine Neart Na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Farm development.
Tier 1 contractors, who will be responsible for subcontracting, will also be in attendance.
Located off Scotland’s east coast, the wind farm was awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) in 2015 and will look to generate enough energy to power 375,000.
The development is planned for completion in 2023.
Matthias Haag, NnG project director, said: “This is such an exciting stage of the development as the project’s Tier 1 contractors get set to mobilise the Scottish supply chain and create local jobs.
“That’s why these supply chain events in March will be so valuable to us. We will be able to find out more about the local businesses who we believe have a lot to offer to the project and in turn it will allow our Tier 1 contractors to give the supply chain a detailed insight into the project.
“We are confident that the local supply chain can play a huge role in helping to deliver NnG so we would really appreciate hearing from any Scottish companies.”
EDF Renewables and ESB confirmed that all 54 of NnG’s turbines will be assembled at the Port of Dundee while Scottish engineering firm BiFab will manufacture at least eight of the foundation jackets.
