Interesting interview with Noam Eppel, Morpheus Network COO.
What is your background briefly?
My parents were born in Dublin, Ireland and immigrated to Canada just before I was born. I grew up in a suburb just outside of Toronto, Canada. I’ve always had an interest in technology and business was always entrepreneurial even from a young age.
I’ve been a full stack web developer for many years running a web development agency. I enjoy working remotely with a global, international team which allows me the freedom to work from any location. I have been living in Taiwan for the past 6 years and recently moved back to Canada with my family.
Insights with Noam Eppel
Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?
Yes, my past experience in technology, managing large projects and teams led me to this place of co-founding Morpheus Network.
1 min pitch for what you are doing now / what is your role with Morpheus?
I’m the co-founder and COO of Morpheus Network. The Supply Chain SaaS middleware platform seamlessly integrating legacy and emerging technologies. We provide supply chain managers with a Digital Footprint, providing shipment and item visibility for automating safe and secure supply chains saving time and money.
We built the company to make logistics easier by utilizing emerging technologies such as IoT, blockchain technology, Machine Learning etc. Combining a very experienced team with expertise in global trade, information security, blockchain, and artificial intelligence, we aim to fix supply chain inefficiencies.
Why did you get involved with them/ what inspired you to cofound them?
The global supply trade is rife with inefficiencies. The World Economic Forum has estimates that reducing barriers to international trade could increase the world’s GDP by 5% and boost total trade by almost 15%. In monetary terms, this equates to a figure of over 2 trillion dollars per annum.
I have 15 years experience in technology and information security. My Co-Founder Dan Weinberger has 15 years experience in global supply chain. Together, we realized the huge opportunity emerging technology cane have in addressing and solving major pain points for some of the largest shipping companies in the globe.
Why do you think it is such a powerful idea?
Adopting technology can be a challenge for many companies. The Morpheus.Network Platform provide a way for companies to adopt and benefit from these technologies in a way that is seamless and easy. As a middleware platform, we currently integrate with 100+ third-party systems such as DHL, FedEx, UPS and Salesforce, PowerBI, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, etc., and various IoT hardware devices. This allows companies to utilize their existing software and services but benefit from the automation and process optimization our platform provides.
The feedback and results we have been seeing in our pilot programs with large companies in Canada, the US, Mexico, Argentina and China has been phenomenal. We are providing supply chain managers with much greater visibility into their global supply chains and we are saving them not only money due to lost revenue, but we’re also making the flow of goods faster, more traceable and trackable and much more efficient.
Why did you decide to remote work from Taiwan for 6 years? What was it like living there?
Living in Taiwan was initially my wife’s idea. She was drawn to traveling and was really interested in the experience and challenge of being immersed in a culture so different from our own. We initially planned to stay for a year but we quickly fell in love with the people, culture, food, opportunities to travel. The health care system, transportation systems and education systems were efficient and impressive and we had a lot of fun living there.
You support environmental causes, tell us more about this?
In Taiwan, I started an annual 3 vs 3 basketball tournament to bring the local and expat communities together in a joint effort to raise awareness and money for environmental issues, especially clean air.
