North America Electricity procurement segment contracts in January 2021: Exclusive analysis

There were 24 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in January 2021, marking a drop of 4% over the last 12-month average of 25, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in January 2021 with 42 contracts and a 43.8% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 24 contracts and a 25% share and Generation Equipment with 20 contracts and a 20.8% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 23 contracts and a 95.8% share
  2. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 4.2% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement contracts in January 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 13 contracts with a 52% share, followed by wind with ten contracts and a 40% share and hydro with two contracts and an 8% share.

North America electricity procurement contracts in January 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Equinor Wind US L (United States): 2,490MW from one contract
  2. Invenergy L (United States): 525MW from two contracts
  3. EDP Renewables North America L (United States): 275MW capacity from one contract.
