Fargo, N.D. — North Dakota inventory of all hogs and pigs on Dec. 1 was 142,000 head, according to the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The number is down 2% from Dec. 1 last year.
Breeding hog inventory was unchanged from last year, at 35,000 head.
Market hog inventory was down 3% from last year, at 107,000 head.
The North Dakota annual pig crop was down 2% from 2018, at 802,000 head. Sows farrowed during the year totaled 73,000 head, down 1% from 2018. The average annual pigs saved per litter was 10.99 for 2019, compared to 11.14 last year.
