Ontario International Airport (ONT) showed significant growth in 2019, processing 5.5 million passengers, the most in a decade, with growth in cargo activity for commercial freight also posting healthy growth.
ONT passenger volume increased 9.1% from 5.1 million in 2018. Domestic travel rose 8%, from 4.8 million travelers in 2018 to more than 5.2 million. The number of international passengers increased 33.4%, from 227,883 to more than 304,000.
Commercial freight also rose significantly for the year, with freight shipments increasing to more than 760,000 tons, which is up 5.1% over 2018.
And, as ONT continues to grow in popularity as an international passenger airport, recent groundbreakings by Birtcher and Hillwood for projects at nearby San Bernardino Airport show regional demand in the Inland Empire for air cargo capacity is moving developers to meet operative requirements from a growing screen-to-door retail economy and its related home delivery demands.
