A French-Canadian dual national has been charged after police seized methamphetamine with a street value of about $16 million in Melbourne.
The 154kg of ice is believed to have been shipped from Mexico and concealed in in a cargo of silver concentrate in January.
The 26-year-old was arrested on Saturday night in Melbourne and remanded in custody to appear in court on Tuesday, February 25.
He was later charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, attempted possession of a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and attempted trafficking of a controlled drug.
The seizure was part of a joint operation by the Australian Federal Police, Victoria Police, the Australian Border Force and the Australian Crime Intelligence Commission.
The operation also nabbed a 34-year-old Sydney man near Seymour in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley on Saturday.
He was charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and will also appear in court on Tuesday.
