The new Target Distribution Center in Joliet plans to add about 200 jobs this year.
Target announced continued hiring plans as it prepares for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting Tuesday at the 1.2 million-square-foot distribution center in the Rock Creek Logistics Center.
The facility has been operating since November and already has 100 employees. Target plans to have 300 employees at the distribution center by the end of 2020, according to the company announcement.
The employee count exceeds the 200 workers projected when Target announced plans for the distribution center in September.
The Target operation provides stores with operating supplies, including shelving and signs.
Staff includes warehouse workers, operations managers and clerical staff. Target said when it announced the project that the company offers employees education benefits such as tuition and GED reimbursement.
The distribution center is located at 3300 Channahon Road and is the first operation to open in the Rock Creek Logistics Center.
GP Transco, a trucking and logistics company, is building a 40,000-square-foot headquarters and trucking operation that is expected to open later this year in Rock Creek. The GP Transco operation will employ 100 workers.
The business park is being developed at Houbolt Road and Route 6, an area that is planned to be at the end of the future Houbolt Road bridge that would connect CenterPoint Intermodal Center-Joliet with Interstate 80. The plans include construction of a new divergent diamond interchange at Houbolt and I-80.
