FERDINAND — A combine’s grain header being towed on a trailer took out a gas pump on Ferdinand’s south side Wednesday.
Loren Pollard, 61, Albion, Illinois, was pulling a 2018 Chevrolet 3500 series pickup truck into the Circle A at 460 S. Main St. at the time of the 8:26 p.m. mishap, according to the Ferdinand Police Department.
Police said the cargo on Pollard’s trailer — a combine grain header — struck a fuel pump and a small sign. A safety guard on the header caught the sign and pulled it into the pump causing substantial damage.
It was thought the pump was unrepairable and would require a replacement valued at $16,000.
Damage to the grain header was estimated at $1,000. Police said the truck and trailer did not appear to have been damaged.
No citations were issued.
