- A fire engulfed a hardware factory in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, on Wednesday evening.
- No injuries were reported and it took almost four hours and 27 firefighters to extinguish the fire.
- The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is ongoing.
A fire broke out at a hardware warehouse in Pomona Road, Kempton Park, Johannesburg, on Wednesday.
EMS spokesperson Eric Maluka told News24 the company’s security guards were the first responders.
“The security guard officers activated their grassie units and started fighting the fire … they then called the fire services for assistance.”
Maluka said when emergency services arrived, the roof was caving in.
It took nine water pumps, four water tankers, five fire engines and 27 firefighters to extinguish the flames.

Three Ekhuruleni Metro Police Department officers were also deployed to monitor the incident.
Maluka said the warehouse’s owner told emergency services there were signs of possible trouble when the factory opened earlier in the day.
He added the extent of the damage was unknown and the cause of the fire was yet to be determined.
Maluka said an investigation was ongoing.
There were no injuries or fatalities.
