ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – – Rock River Disposal employees say this is one of the busiest times for waste management and recycling.
“There is more than usual… A lot of wrapping paper, Christmas gifts, boxes and old things people are getting rid of,” said David Novak, from Rock River Disposal.
It can be hard for some people to stay green while trying to get rid of trash.
“If you live in an apartment most managers or apartment owners do not recycle. They have one trash dumpster and everything goes into that,” said Rocco Guglielmetti.
Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful is helping us in that process by recycling our holiday trash.
“They drop off their recyclables we take metals, clothes, paper, cardboard, electronics and just about anything you can think of, said Pamela Osborne, a supervisor at the facility.
Osborne says there is a method to recycling. The facility accepts most items but don’t recycle any type of plastic.. Packing material, Styrofoam or ribbon.
You can download an app called WasteConnect to help you decide if something belongs in the recycling bin or trash.
